BBQ Bootcamp 2021 Guest Instructors
In 2021, we’ll be kicking things up a notch with the addition of superstar chefs like Valerie Gordon, Elizabeth Falkner, Katie Flannery and Ellen Bennett. The visiting chefs will join the Ranch’s own Executive Chef, Anthony Endy, as they serve up grilled feasts and reveal the tips and tricks for creating legendary BBQ.
FEATURED CHEF VALERIE GORDON
Valerie Gordon’s business acumen and warm, entertaining charm lend themselves to her extensive brand, including the flagship retail boutique Valerie Confections in South Silverlake, and a café and bakery showcasing her savory prowess in Echo Park. The celebrated Los Angeles chocolatier—and James Beard Finalist cookbook author—embraces a philosophy of telling compelling stories through flavor. Her versatile culinary knack includes handmade chocolates, preserves, historic California cakes, savory delights, and a new frontier involving nationally praised grilled desserts.
FEATURED CHEF ELIZABETH FALKNER
Celebrated chef, Elizabeth Falkner was born in San Francisco, grew up in Los Angeles and worked her way up in San Francisco’s top kitchens before opening her first restaurant, Citizen Cake in 1997. A decade later, she opened four more restaurants in San Francisco and New York. Today, she does recipe development and consults on numerous products and brands. She is an inspiring public speaker and has cooked and spoken all over the United States and in Japan, Europe, Mexico, Canada and China.
FEATURED CHEF KATIE FLANNERY
Much like the cattle whose beef she works with, Katie Flannery is something of a rare breed. She’s a butcher’s daughter who has quickly risen in her role in her family’s trade of three generations. Together with her father, Bryan, the duo have made the Flannery name one of the most respected in the beef business. A leading prime partner to top chefs across the West, the Michelin-level meat is delivered nationwide, making it easier to get and gift these prized dry-aged prime steaks. Katie is at the helm of the company’s operations; growing business and awareness of quality dry-aging of the Holstein steer variety.
FEATURED CHEF ELLEN BENNETT
Growing up, Ellen Bennett, the founder and CEO of Hedley & Bennett, the leading Los Angeles based culinary workwear brand, found herself spending summers in her native Mexico learning to cook with her abuelita. Soon after graduating high school, Ellen found herself back in Mexico City attending culinary school where she would rekindle the joys of her summer cooking adventures while learning the skills needed to tackle the hustle of the professional kitchen. Back in L.A. she put her training to work cooking in two Michelin Star restaurants, Providence and Baco Mercat.
