This Fall’s BBQ Bootcamp Serves Up Grilling Magic
When the autumn leaves start falling, it’s a sure sign that the grilling event of the season is about to fire up at The Alisal. The upcoming BBQ Bootcamp runs from Sunday, October 20th through the morning of Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019. If you are an experienced pitmaster, or just love great barbecue, this is an opportunity to learn grilling tips and tricks from some of America’s top outdoor chefs. Here is just a taste of what is in store:
Sunday, October 20
There will be a 2p.m. afternoon seminar called “Smoked and Grilled” led by Burt Bakman. Burt is the Pitmaster and owner of LA’s Slab, and Trudy’s Underground Barbecue. He will explain the secrets of smoking brisket, grilling steaks, and more. His creations will be served as part of your dinner feast.
Later in the afternoon there will be a seminar led by noted confection chef and author, Valerie Gordon, on creating delicious barbecue desserts.
All that grilling goodness is bound to whet your appetite, so at dinner Pitmaster Burt Bakman, Alisal Executive Chef Endy, and dessert expert Valerie Gordon, will all team up to present a “Live Fire Dinner.” The meal will be paired with delicious local offerings from Kaena Winery and Topa Topa Brewing.
Monday, October 21
After a leisurely breakfast get ready for a 9:30a.m. workshop on spice blending, featuring Joy Culley, owner of Solvang Spice Merchant. She will show you how to create your own signature blend and rub.
At 11:30a.m., there will be a seminar and lunch featuring Paula Disbrowe, chef and author of Thank You For Smoking. She will introduce you to her unique style of smoking and grilling and will provide her culinary masterpieces to you, as lunch.
In the afternoon you will learn the secrets to Santa Maria Style barbecue from Alisal Executive Chef, Anthony Endy, and world famous Hitching Post II, Chef, owner, and winemaker, Frank Ostini. They will also invite special guests to discuss some key ingredients that can take your grilling skills to the next level.
In the late afternoon enjoy a workshop on bread baking with Bob Oswaks, owner of Bob’s Well Bread in Los Alamos. Here you will learn the fundamentals of bread baking with live fire.
Monday evening is a time for full-blown feasting. It will begin with appetizers by Chefs Anthony Endy, Frank Ostini, and Bob Oswaks. The treats are accompanied by wine and beer tasting and signature cocktails. Dinner is the “Ring of Fire Grand BBQ” with all chefs preparing a lavish Santa Maria Style BBQ Menu. To close out the night, enjoy The Alisal’s Campfire & Cocktails, where you can roast marshmallows under the stars.
Tuesday, October 22
First thing Tuesday morning you are invited to enjoy a private breakfast ride, or hay wagon ride to The Alisal Historic Adobe, for a hearty breakfast. After breakfast, a leisurely check out at noon is the official close of BBQ Bootcamp. Be sure to book your spot soon. Spaces go very quickly, but the mouthwatering memories will last a lifetime.
